Managing and configuring Dr.Web

When SpIDer Agent is running, its icon  displays in the notification area.

Note

If SpIDer Agent is not running, on the Windows Start menu, select the Dr.Web application group and then select SpIDer Agent.

 

The SpIDer Agent icon indicates the status of Dr.Web:

SpIDer Agent icon – All necessary components are running and protect your computer.

SpIDer Agent icon Dr.WebSelf-protection or an important component such as SpIDer Guard or Firewall is disabled, which compromises security of Dr.Web and your computer. Enable Self-protection or the component.

SpIDer Agent icon – an error occurred while starting one of the main Dr.Web components. Your computer is at risk of virus infection. Check that you have a valid key file and, if required, install it.

When you hover the mouse cursor, a pop-up appears with information about the components that are running, the date of last update, and amount of virus signatures in the virus databases..

Also notifications may appear over the SpIDer Agent SpIDer Agent icon if configured.

The SpIDer Agent menu SpIDer Agent icon allows to perform the main management and setting functions of Dr.Web. To open the menu, click the SpIDer Agent icon SpIDer Agent icon in the Windows notification area.

About

Opens a window with information about your version of Dr.Web and lists of included components and virus databases.

Register license

Starts the Installation Wizard for receiving the key file from the Doctor Web server.

My Dr.Web

Opens your personal webpage on the Doctor Web official website. This page provides you with information on your license including usage period and serial number, allows to renew the license, contact technical support, and so on.

Help

Opens Dr.Web Online Help.

SpIDer Guard, SpIDer Mail, SpIDer Gate, Parental Control, Firewall

Allow you to access management and settings features as well as statistics of the corresponding components.

Available components are determined by the type of your anti-virus solution.

Updater

Opens the Dr.Web Updater window where you can start an update.

Scanner

Starts Dr.Web Scanner.

Tools

Opens a submenu providing access to:

License Manager

Main settings of Dr.Web and particular components

Component statistics

Dr.Web Quarantine

Anti-virus Network

Report generation wizard

Administrative/User mode

This item displays when you do not have administrative privileges. For instance, this item displays when you log into Windows XP operating system as a non-privileged user, or when User Account Control of Windows Vista or Microsoft Windows 7 operating system is enabled. Otherwise, the item is hidden and SpIDer Agent menu provides access to all features all the time.

The Administrative/User mode item allows you to switch between full-function Administrative mode and restricted User mode. In User mode, access to all component settings is forbidden, as well as options to disable the components and Self-protection are blocked.

You need administrative privileges to switch to Administrative mode.

 
 

 

Note

To disable certain Dr.Web components, it is required to enter confirmation code or password (if you set Protect Dr.Web settings by password check box on the Self-protection page in Dr.Web Main settings).

 

To access the component settings and open your personal webpage My Dr.Web, you also need to enter the password if you set Protect Dr.Web settings by password check box on the Self-protection page in Dr.Web Main settings.
